Sasieni Four Dot Walnujt Wingate #52123-3933 *SOLD 5/31/23*

$165.00

This is about as cute a pipe as you can find among old, classic English makers and shapes. Because of the Pot-shaped bowl, the capacity of the chamber probably qualifies as a Grp. 4, but let’s call it a Grp. 3. The Wingate is akin, if your memory or knowledge is vast enough (mine is…yours probably isn’t) to something like a LaSalle to a Cadillac. The old LaSalle was basically an 8/10 Caddy. The Duesenberg, or maybe Cord, also produced an 8/10 version. So, this Wingate is a smaller version of the Moorgate. The condition is excellent, with clear nomenclature, an original stem with no tooth marks and a rim that exhibits no wear. I have seen a lot of Moorgates. In fact, a good sized collection of them has passed through this site, but never, to my recollection, a Wingate. The Wingate is not illustrated in the Sasieni catalog I have, which shows 45 different shapes.Used.
4.9” long, bowl 1.45” tall. Weight: 1 oz., 28 grams.
