Here is a piece of old Americana, harking back to the days when a vendor of outdoor gear and clothes wasn’t afraid or ashamed to sell briar pipes. I don’t know if this qualifies as a collectible yet, but it surely will in the future. Nicely, this pipe is unsmoked. It’s a Grp. 4 size with an ebonite stem and an open draw. There is a metal stinger sticking out of the tenon (and into the shank, of course) but I’m pretty that can easily be pulled out if you wish. Other than the “L.L. Bean” stamping, the only other bit of nomenclature says that it’s “imported briar.” Not bad looking briar at that.
