Mario Gasparini, with his wife Ida (my mother’s name, BTW) started his pipe making concern in 1938. According to Pipedia, which may or may not be up to date, the firm is in the hands of his daughter and grand daughter. One of their lines is the MGM, which stands for the father and perhaps the daughter, Marisa. Considering the straight grain herein, the MGM might designate a signature piece. In any case, this is a large (look at the bowl dimensions below) beautifully grained block. It is unsmoked, my thumb can fit into the uncoated chamber, the stem is acrylic and the draw is open. It comes in a presentation box of perhaps a coated cardboard. It is not wood. New.
