Please excuse me if I start off on the wrong foot here. According to Pipedia, that ingenious invention of Scott Thile’s, the gentleman’s real name, original name, if you will, is Ken'ichiro Dederichs-Uchida. He is Japanese and married, I’m guessing, a German woman sur-named Dederichs, and is now living in Germany, so I’ve got him on this, the German page. Wherever you want to place him, he’s clearly a fine pipe maker. Is he still making pipes. The Pipedia page was last updated in 2008. This pipe is like new…it’s barely been smoked, maybe once or part of once. It’s a Grp. 6 size with a wide-open draw and a vulcanite stem. Even the bamboo seems to be of superior quality…very clean and even colored. Of course, I’m no judge of bamboo. Here is what the consignor says about Dederichs pipes: “I watch his estate pipes because his pipes are fine smokers for me.” Why, then is this on the market…only because, “it's too cumbersome for me.” So, if you want a good smoker, but like large pipes, this is one to consider. Used.
6.5” long, bowl 1.8” tall. Weight: 2 oz., 56 grams.
