When was the last time L.L. Bean sold pipes? This one is unsmoked and is fit for collectors, I suspect, not that it won’t smoke well. The tenon contains a tube, much like the tube in old Dunhills, and a cleaner, folded in half and yes, inside the tenon that goes into the shank. And the shank is not particularly thick, so the construction is quite efficient and effective. Even though the draw, as it exists, is decent enough, I recommend removing the cleaner and using it as you normally would, after the smoke. I’m going to leave it all intact for you to do with as you please. Grp. 5 size, or large 4.
