Sommer was a pipe maker and a pipe shop in Paris for over 100 yrs. After about 3 generations, the family finally sold, but their pipes always had a certain je ne sais quoi about them. This one is a 3 Sun, which is pretty high on their grading system. There is a little bite mark on the top of the stem and one on the button on the bottom, but they are minor. That button, BTW, is quite round compared to later stems, so this pipe likely goes back to the 1950s, although the silver band does not have what appears to be a date hallmark. It is an original band and not a repair band but all I can make out is that it says “Paris” on it. Grp. 5 size.
