We (David Field and myself) imported Don Carlos pipes for a while and I don’t recall having seen a Churchwarden. My strong guess is that this pipe was made specifically for David’s wife, Jan. I purchased her nice little pipe collection not long ago. You’ll see more of her pipes on this site. This one is not only stamped “Don Carlos,” but also has “Bruto” stamped on it. I don’t recall seeing that on one of his pipes, either. It comes with two stems, so can be used as a regular smoke or as a Churchwarden. The briar here has terrific cross grain (going up and down the back of the bowl and over the top of the shank) and Bird’s Eye. The bowl is at least a Grp. 4 size. The condition is excellent.
