New, that is, unsmoked. It not only has the grade stamped on it, but also the provenance of the briar. The trouble is, I never mastered the ability identify whether the symbol indicated Sardinian briar or Corsican briar. Can you really go wrong with either? Nothing out there smokes as well as a Joura. The man was a bit of an obsessive purist…all to our benefit. Happily (imo) not that big for a Joura…a Grp. 5. Stem material is vulcanite.
