A bit smaller that a Grp. 4, so it must be a Grp. 3. Can’t fool me that easily. The “meer” at the end of the name refers to the meerschaum lining that this pipe sports. The condition of the pipe is very good, with nothing more than some carbon coloring on the meerschaum rim, but no wear on either the meerschaum or the briar rim. No marks on the stem and despite the tight P-lip, the draw is open. But here’s the interesting news…the nomenclature, which is perfectly sharp and clear, says that the pipe was made not in Ireland, or even England, but “Great Britain.” I’ve never seen that before. I’m going to see if the google search can tell me the years that stamping was used. I’ll be right back. OK. Looks like the pipe had to be made between 1950 & 1970. Even if was made that last year, it’s now almost 60 yrs. old.
