Fine cross grain and Bird’s Eye. The condition is very good, with no wear visible on the inner rim, although there is some carbon residue on the inside of that rim. The stem is in excellent condition, with no bite marks at all. The weakness is buffed down nomenclature. Some digits of the patent number are buffed out, although the important numbers that show the year are fully legible. All the rest of the nomenclature is visible, but not crisp and clear…but the pipe is, after all, 72 years old.
