I’m using the John Loring book to date this pipe, so I think the 1939 date is accurate. If nothing else, it is an old Patent number, and in excellent condition, with a clean, crisp rim and mark-free stem, plus a stem logo. Although it is a long pipe, mostly due to the stem, but also with a long shank, I think the bowl is more like a large Grp. 3, rather than a Grp. 4. The nomenclature is also clear, although the stamping wasn’t always deep.
